Wall-mounted rotating soaps were once widely observed in public buildings and schools. Known in France as savon de l'écolier (school soap), they were patented in the 1950s by Provendi Soap.
Nowadays, they are more frequent in households throughout the world.
These are genuinely the quintessential French Soap experience. However, today there are many more scent options available than in the fifties, so you get the best of both worlds; new and old.
The wall-mounted bar is best attached to the wall above a kitchen sink, or in a bathroom or WC. The soap (refill) slides on smoothly and is kept in place by screwing in a holding nut. Being placed directly over the sink has some advantages too:
-
It eliminates the need for a conventional soap dish holder which saves space on your sink space.
-
As it is not a bar soap sitting in its own sludge, it will drain much better and dry quicker due to better airflow around the soap.
-
The soap lasts much longer when it is allowed to dry correctly. Some say you can get as many as 1000 handwashes from one soap!
Don't like the idea of the wall soap holder? No problem, each soap is supplied with a rope so you can hang it in the shower, above your sinks or even on the Christmas tree if you want :)
